About Us

The Great Dane Lovers Association of WA Incorporated (GDLAWA) was established in 2003 and welcomes all owners of, lovers of, and those interested in Great Danes.

You do not have to own a Great Dane to be a member, and you don't have to live in Western Australia. We welcome you all!

We are a 'pet owners' club and whilst we do have members who show their dogs, we do not exclude any Dane cross, breed mix, colour or size from joining our club or events.

Whilst Dog Showing is a great hobby to participate in and contributes to the betterment of the breed in many important ways, GDLAWA is not a show club. Events are for fun and socialisation only. If you are interested in showing your Dane you will need to contact DogsWest in Western Australia (insert hyperlink) to join and participate in competitive showing. Please read the Great Dane Breed Standard please visit Dogs Australia

02

Socialisation

Providing an opportunity for members to safely socialise with other members and their dogs

03

Assistance

Offering assistance to those interested in becoming a Great Dane owner

We also provide rescue and rehoming assistance  where possible for Great Danes and their owners.

Our Committee

The GDLAWA committee meets a few times per year to discuss issues relating to the club. If you are interested in becoming a committee member or have input for consideration please contact us with your details.

In 2014 the GDLAWA initiated a “Health & Lifestyle Survey” to gather prevalence figures for many owners practices and health issues for purebred Great Danes. The final population number was 285 dogs surveyed and the data for each of a broad spectrum of lifestyle and health issues is contained in the report shown here as a pdf document which may be downloaded.
